The National Centers for Environmental Information has recently published a new annual report on January 13, 2022, analyzing the global climate for 2021.
The report states that “2021 was the sixth-warmest year on record for the globe” (NCEI 2022). Average global temperatures continue to trend upward as record-high temperatures for land and sea surfaces appear across the world. Northern Hemisphere snow cover extent was above average. Sea ice extent in the arctic has increased compared to recent years, although it is still below average. Antarctic sea ice extent is below average and continuing to decrease (NCEI 2022).
